Webb9 feb. 2015 · Smj 327, 283 crank and 11.0 327 pop up pistons GM 3866954. Reading online some call these L79 pistons. Bought this as a short block, owner said it was running. Anyone know how far down the hole these pistons are suppose to be? I just took took the pan off 5 mins ago, will have to measure what I got.

They eventually started putting cast iron cranks in some of the small journal 283's. Anybody know what year they changed the bottom end of the 283 block to accept the iron cranks? The problem with this is the smaller journals. It is possible to use a larger journal 350 block and use a stroker crank to which would be what I would do if I built another one.

Put a larger stroke crank in a redesigned 283 block and get a 307.
